Earthway Experience was started by Kevin Jarvis in about 1992. It started as a simple website promoting outdoor education schools (using Netscape Navigator Beta 0.9). Earthway slowly grew into Earthway Network and now has evolved into Earthway Experience.

 

Kevin was born in 1960 and grew up in Southern California. He has been enjoying the great outdoors since he was a child. Hiking with friends in the local San Bernardino Mountains at the age of 9, a surfer and fisherman at age of 12 , up at dawn to catch the first waves or if the surf was down up for early fishing from Newport Beach peir.

 

When he was 15 his family moved to Washington State. There he enjoyed the mountains, hiking and skiing. He began flying small airplanes at this age as well. By age 18 he and had his commercial and flight instructors pilots licence.

 

Kevin flew commercially and was a flight instructor, flew small passenger planes and by the age of 27 was flying a 747.

 

At 29 he scaled Denali (Mt McKinely) at 20 320 feet (6 193 meters). At the time Kevin was living in the mountains of Colorado, hiking, fishing and skiing in his free time. It was during this time he met Cecilia. They married and lived in Colorado enjoying the outdoors together.

 

In 1991 it was off to Alaska! Cecilia and Kevin lived in Alaska for almost 10 years enjoying the great outdoors, hunting, cross country skiing, camping and fishing for LOTS of Alaska Salmon. During this time they traveled to Tom Brown Jr's Tracker School for numerous week long intensive workshops. Honing their outdoor skills and learning more skills all the timel. But they always took these skills back to the Alaska wilderness to make sure the skills functioned!

During this time Kevin met a Lakota elder and this started a new type of learning. Many trips to South Dakota and finally the family moved from Alaska to the Black Hills of South Dakota. He learned much from these elders and his knowledege of Lakota ways is reflected in Earthway Experience.

 

In 2004 the Jarvis family, now including sons Axel and Anton, relocated to Sweden. Living in Leksand they enjoy Dalarna's nature.
